Amber, the "Gold of the Sea", is a gemstone used since the dawn of humankind and for all sorts of cult and healing purposes. Amber is many millions of years old. The temporary resin of historical artefacts became a solid substance over time. That's why amber is not really a mineral, not an actual stone, but it still belongs to the gemstones.
The fossil resin consists essentially of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Added to this is some sulfur, terpene derivatives and resin. The amber was created in Terti & aumlr. Amber is a collective term for more than 300 different fossil resins. As a metabolic product of plant origin, amber is a biolith, a "living stone" whose origin began 40 to 50 million years ago.
At that time, vast subtropical archipelagoes covered an area that stretched from present-day Scandinavia and Russia to the then-defunct Baltic Sea. There grew a coniferous species (pine Pinius succinifera), which secreted abundant resin even in the smallest injuries. This resin quickly solidified and was preserved in the soil under airtight conditions.
